Howto get trouble codes/ diagnostic mode 1992 GM

My car sputtered a little a few weeks ago and my check engine light came on briefly, I need to figure out how to get diagnostic trouble codes from my car.

I searched all around the net and cannot find out how to get trouble codes for my '92 merc, and I don't have a haynes or chilton manual yet, any help would be appreciated.

Buy a cheap code scanner for your year of vehicle....that is pre obd 2. They have a funny trapezoidal connector on them.....should be around $25
