civi to police alt upgrade questions

I have a spare 100 amp police alt that I am not using at the moment.
Since the hillbilly SUV project is all about reliability and low budget fun, I am seriously considering doing the swap.

Now for the hard part, I have been told that even with the 100 amp harness and voltage reg, it won't just plug up and work.

Here is my question, does anyone know whether this is true, or not?
If it is true, can somone tell me what is so different about the big power plug that comes down about 19" from the alt, are between the two setups.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't get too conerned with using the factory power wiring. Just run a cable direct from the alternator to the battery and install a fuse. Wire up the regulator as it needs to be and call it a day. The other annoyance is that the plugs seemed to change every year, so finding cables to just plug in to what you have might be a problem. I can say for sure the plugs for an 86, an 87 and an 88 are all different.

The 65s are internally regulated, the 100's are externally regulated. I also think the bolt spacing is different and the 100's are larger.

        Ok, just for the record.

        I already have:

        Police 100 amp alt.
100 amp wiring harness and regulator
100 amp alt bracket, + bolts.

I am asking only about the wiring differences.

Does the connector look different? The ony thing I can guess is that the 65 amp harness isn't heavy duty enough forthe 100 amp alt.
