    I might buy a LEMON.....Please help!

Last Fri (5/2), I bought a 2000 Grand Marquis GS from big Ford dealer. It was trade-in, has 59500 miles, one-owner. I left it there for the dealer to inspect, smokecheck, and detail. Pick it up on Sunday morning, drive less than 6 miles and the car was overheating!!! Called AAA and had it tow back to the dealer. They changed thermostat, waterpump, released air from the system, and the car was still overheating. They had to contact Ford engineer for help. Yesterday Ford engineer suggested them to replace transmission coil (???) and the car was still overheating. Call them this morning and the tech is off today and the service manager refuses to assign another tech to work on the GM. They will contact Ford engineer again tomorrow for further assistance.....They've had the car since Sunday and still can't fix the overheating problem.

My patience for them is running out and in the mean time I don't know what I should do next other than hoping them correct the problem soon so I can have the car back. Please share if you have any sugesstion or advice.....

    Thanks,

    Ben

    welcome to gmn ben!
be patient......be glad they only have one tech working on the car......too many irons in the fire can really screw up things! when i worked for other people i hated trying to put somebody elses project back together and it usually resulted in a few spare parts
very strange that there is problems at such low mileage.....maybe the radaiator is defective or the electric fan is not coming on

Hmm had the stupid intake manifold problem been fixed by 2000? If its got that plastic intake and it hasn't been replaced with the updated aluminum crossover part, make sure they do that under warranty for you.

        Thanks for all your input....

I had the car only 15 minutes (drove less than 6 miles) and the Ford dealer service department's have it since Sunday so I didn't have a chance to check any part (radiator, fan, intake manifold,ect...) They have to contact Ford engineer for help so the problem seems more serious than I thought. I ran the Carfax and Recall but it didn't show any problem.

I'm going to call them again today and will let you guys know...

Hopefully they can get it worked out, or return your money since it broke down immediately after buying it.
