I don't think it was CAFE so much as CARB. My diesel Lincoln had a different injection pump and a computer to control injection timing based on several inputs in California, 49 state was a more basic pump with a simple thermal switch to advance timing for cold starts.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Here, tell your wife that OR is in many aspects similar enough to Cali that she'll probably like it, yet it's also quite different in the areas that matter most to you. Win-win maybe?
Far as MAF cars go, it's kind of cool to be able to modify your car without the computer shitting the bed. I know SD is better if you tune it but my main issue currently is being under the thumb of the smog nazis here. Not to mention i know shit-all about tuning so i'd rather just let the computer sort it out. Is it the best way? No. Will it work? Yes. Lots of fox mustangs out there with major mods and stock computers. With tuning they'd no doubt make better power and run better, but there's a degree of freedom in knowing you can just stick shit on your car and it'll work. When we stuck all that aftermarket top-end shit on the other '90 it started and idled a jillion times better than it did with the stock crap. Computer was still getting used to the new stuff when the end came but it was literally better every day. That's why i like my '90-'91 cali cars. Possibly the only good thing about being here, lol.

in theory SD is superior from a throttle response point of view, but its far less tolerant of changes than mass air. Its kind of an educated guess method. You educate the ECM on the engine's specific airflow properties, and it does a reasonably good job of guessing at the fuel. Change the air, and it has absolutely no idea what to do so the guess is wrong. Mass air just measures and fuels accordingly, within it's limitations of course.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

All kidding aside, it is a nice place but is unfortunately getting overrun by expatriate californians hell-bent on turning into the same thing. I'd rather not re-visit this bullshit in 10 years. The old lady is coming around finally, just need to research and find the right fit for us. She actually mentioned Maine, lol, so maybe i could move in next door to Tom. I dunno, it's a little ways down the road so i'll figure it out.

Oregon is nice. To get your plumbing license (required) here, you will need all documentation you can get of work experience. Then the state determines how much credit they will give you towards the 8000 hours of apprenticeship required for a license. Any trade schooling/code classes are helpful. Most times they require a certain amount of classes to be able to sit for test. Oregon is short on young plumbers. I think average age is 55. We pay our guys very well so they stick around. It can be a little hit and miss depending on stage of projects but money is very good. Out guys are making 90 to 100k a year lately. Hoping this economy continues so I can get out in 10 years. My number is 5412300512 if you have interest. And it doesn't really rain all the time here like you may have heard.1991 lx. Grandmas car. 80k. Garage queen

I agree, far too many libtard around here, but not nearly as bad as commiefornia. The trouble with Oregon is there are 3 counties which combined make up more than half the population and sadly enough, are most likely transplanted Californians and overeducated fools.1991 lx. HRG I do agree that the Explorer engine is more durable and yes you can beef it up for performance too. Some have done is find a retired Highway Patrol Mustang, we all know that they have been rode hard and put away wet, and they still go strong like 140 MPH as for the manual transmission I do not know. West if you plan doing performance work do a rear disk brake conversion you will need to stop that big beast as well as convert the front to 11 inch front disk I wish you good luck and some food for thought.

As for the Mustang stick-shift, it's an OK transmission but there is better out there. Naturally better also means more expensive. "Gotta pay to play" and all that nonsense. That said AFAIK there is still a 4-cylinder (weaker than the V8 version) Mustang transmission happily surviving behind a GT40P-headed HO 302 in a heavy Mk7 out there, so if they are treated properly they do get the job done. Now let's see how long another 4-cylinder Mustang 5-speed will last behind this Cobra-cammed Explorer engine I posted a picture of earlierThe ones who accomplish true greatness, are the foolish who keep pressing onward.

Sounds a fair sight better than here westy, i may take you up on that. Depending on the kind of work you do here, in some cases saying you've done some plumbing work is enough to get a job, although the pay is shite. Being one of, if not the most, experienced guy out of 12-13 on our crew i still make crap for money because i refuse to work commission. I'm not a scumbag salesman and i also do all my boss's consulting so i'd really be sucking hind tit doing a lot of driving, estimates, and bullshit consults instead of work sometimes. That said, just about anything that requires intelligence, troubleshooting, or just a reasonable amount of common sense, i end up doing anyway.
Enough about that shit though, i want to see more of that car! What type and color of interior have you got? If it's the red/brown crap i have a set of floormats that might work for you.
