It is not uncommon for the power steering systems on these cars to make some noise when it is cold outside, all of mine have whined pretty good when started below zero.

In an effort to eliminate some of the noise and lighten up the steering feel in cold weather, I recently drained the power steering system on my '01 and refilled it with AMSOIL synthetic ATF. Since then I have started it on a couple -15F mornings and...no noise.

I used the AMSOIL ATF b/c I'm a dealer and had some sitting around, I imagine just changing the fluid probably helped and any synthetic ATF would probably give similar results in cold weather.

OK I'll go ahead & change the fluid as soon as I get some $$$$. I don't even have enough to buy the fluid right now.
