So I tried again this morning, with the car at operating temperature. Plugged in the jumper wire and started the car. Key on engine running codes were 536 and 632? Strange but I don't feel like either one of those is relevant

Yes, plastic is normal. I've never actually seen a metal one.

The early factory ones were metal, I think that stopped by the later 90s.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Long story short, I found the culprit. A spark plug wire boot was torn. Looked like little lightning bolts shooting out of it. No idea how I never noticed this before. But I replaced the wire, and the car is running great again. I swear sometimes the dumbest little things can cause such a headache. I went ahead and ordered a set of Autolite wires, should be here soon. I'm sure if one was bad it's only a matter of time for the others. Thanks to everyone that helped me out with this!
