anyone know the intec engine???

saw one in the bone yard yesterday and was wondering what the difference was from the regular v-8's? i saw it in a lincoln if that helps. are they better than the regular engines? i only wondered since i've never seen one in a car with one and it had a nice plastic shroud that had intec spelled out like huge .thanks for any info.

Intech = FoMoCo modular engine family DOHC engine

The 4.6l 32v 4v per cylinder Intech was first released in the 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII, and has since been used in S95 Mustangs (Cobra, Mach1), Lincoln Aviator, and Mercury Marauder

The 5.4l 32v 4v per cylinder Intech was first released in the 1999 Lincoln Navigator, replacing the 5.4l 2v SOHC Triton used for 1998 production. It has seen little other applications, only limited production runs - the 2000 Cobra-R Mustang used a modifed version and significantly revised version in the 2005-2006 Ford GT supercar
The 5.4l Intech was replaced by the 5.4l 3v SOHC for the 2005 model year Navigator.

The new Shelby GT500 is the only current production vehicle to use the 5.4l 32v 4v. Though like the Ford GT application, it is modified to handle the boost. It is no longer reffered to as an Intech engine, for some reason, rather the Triton name is used. Perhaps to instill a thought of truck-like durability to the engine. - though it is still derived from the original 5.4l 32v Intech.
