    help 08 Town car Accumulator Dryer change O-Ring Questions

    It look like I will be changing the dryer. It seems straightforward. I normally would like to change O-rings on the A/C line fittings. I don't believe the Motorcraft dryer includes them.

    Looking on Utube I believe the rings are blue and there are 3 on each hose fitting end. Though I believe the vehicles on Utube were slightly older than the 08 as they had the older style dryers and related switch. There are two hoses connected to the dryer. RockAuto show 4 sizes of blue O-Rings. There are full sets from other manufactures but they all have green rings.

    I guess I could get all the sizes but it seems a waste. About $36 plus shipping and taxes. What is special about the blue rings?

    I would like to have all necessary parts on hand when I do the swap so any advice ?

    No idea what is special about the blue rings. I've always installed the green ones in any R-134 system I've opened up and have yet to have a failure. Just lube it with some PAG and slide em on. I get the misc. size green sets from OReilly's and just match em up.
    These are highly engineered precision vehicles, the first step in diagnosing the problem is to strike the suspected offending part sharply and repeatedly with a blunt object, then re-test.

      green is usually HNBR, which is what you usually get with AC. Internet implies blue might be neoprene? seems to imply HNBR is the better option, but honestly i've never seen a blue O ring in AC work. Usually just black nitrile or green HNBR for anything made in the last 30 years or so. Green ones will work anywhere a standard nitrile O ring is used, so I just fix things with stuff out of my AC kit.
