Headlights Sometimes Will Not Turn Off

    Hello Everyone,

When I switch off the headlights on my '03 Grand Marq the headlights will sometimes stay on. This doesn't happen every time but often enough.

If I play with the switch a little, I can shut them down.

Does this sound like a dreaded LCM issue, or perhaps a worn headlight switch? Thank you for any input.

    yeah, most likely the LCM.

sometimes you get lucky and someone is on soon after you post. sometimes not so much.

in this case, it's typically the headlight relay sticking in the LCM. Replacing the relay with a standard relay may be an option if you have decent soldering skills and don't mind modifying the LCM casing to clear the harness.

I don't mind dusting off my soldering skills, and giving this a shot. I suppose the worst case is lunching the LCM and buying a new one. Either way, I have to make it right. The cost of the unit, however, sounds a little out of line. From what I've been reading they run several hundred dollars.

Like you said: decent soldering skills.

          Thank you,

There is a guy on CVN and the Maurader forums that will do the the external relay fix for you. I think he charges like $50 or something like that. If you search on those sites you will find him. User name is something like fastmerc, or fastblackmerc.

the hardest part is desoldering the old one.. but a good solder sucker will get that job done... then it's just shoving out the old and wiring in the new. There's a write-up I've linked to in the past... I'll go find it.

                here it is:
Everything to do with interior and body electrical including headlights and tail lights. AC/heating.

The P71interceptor link is dead though. The rest are golden.

and for the relays and harnesses... http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Relay-Har.../ref=pd_cp_e_2

it's worth it just for the harnesses, but you get relays too.
