tranny is acting weird, need advice!

ok, my tranny is old, has 130k on it... who knows if it was ever rebuilt. i put a shift kit in it, was good before and good after. shift kit was a really nice and easy upgrade. but lately its started doin some funny things...

it holds a gear from cruise while stopping, causing engine to die down, then it comes out of gear and idles fine.

when in OD, giving it partial or especially when full throttle... it feels like it shifts into 2nd or N for a brief second, then into 3rd.. by the time it grabs the rpms are up and it burns the tires at like 60mph. its cool, but its beatin the rest of the drive train up. definitly not a band slipping though.

now im also noticing a slight whining on acceleration... it doesnt sound like metal on metal though.

anyways, tranny is performing perfectly off the line, chirps the tires into 2nd, no slippage ever.... just weird on braking and OD passing gear down shifts. are those problems gonna destroy this tranny? could it just be a bad torque convertor or TV adjustment? let me know any ideas. thanks guys!

Possibly a sticking valve making the shifts sloppy. That, or your OD band is on the way out. Make sure the TV cable isn't binding or anything, and checking the adjustment couldn't hurt any, but you might be looking at an overhaul soonish.

Oh, and that little whine in first is pretty much normal for an AOD. From what I'm told they all do it. My 20k old rebuilt trans does it too, and it shifts perfectly.

i know the oldmans 88 wagon was doing that in OD, im told they are bad bands or valve body.

weellll the whine i was hearing isnt the tranny... its the damn water pump. so thats not an issue. but the sticking is annoying. can that cause damage to hard parts? or just bands? i have another aod with 89k on it, and i wanna do a full performance rebuild on one of them, with a HD high perf. overhaul kit, wider ratio gears, and HP shift kit.... gonna do it all myself on my porch
