    Shifter Shock

So I was going out tonite and didn't even get out of my driveway when my shifter suddenly felt really loose.
once I got it back into it's parking spot I took apart the shifter and found out that the Cable snapped.

so now I gotta spend 40bux on a new cable..totally sux.

is there anything special I should know about installing this or is it pretty much straight forward?
take shifter out, replace cable, put back together...yes/no?

oh and for those that may not know, I got a B&M Quicksilver shifter

pretty easy to do. just gotta make sure that the cable is not kinked or bent, all the curves are gentle and to route it away from hot parts

Pretty easy, like duce said, make sure its routed well or it'll snap again.

alos. does that shifter have a long "park" section? my pro stick does. with GM transmissions the shifter has to go further to engage park, fords dont need the excess. if you try to push the shifter all the way forward it jams the cable and can break it.

Don't those need a seperate kit to correct for the AOD?

nah the additiobnal park space is built into the shifter gate. so unless they have a specific AOD plate instead of just a 4-speed forward pattern plate it would have the GM park location

Column Gear Selector ftw. My friend has had trouble with his Craparo, some pin pops out of his gear selector and he loses the ability to change his gear. Not fun cause he pulls real close to cars in front of him.

Shouldnt have to pull the shifter out. Just remove the console cover and the shift knob. Remove C clip from the shifter end of the cable. Unbolt the cable anchor. From under the car remove the cotter pin from the end were the cable attaches to the selector arm of the trans. Loosen nuts that anchor cable to the anchor bracket. Remove nut from the cable end that attaches to selector arm. Pull cable through the bracket. Remove what evet grommet was used to seal floor pan and pull cable shifter end of the cable out from the underside of the car. Another big helpwould be to have the instalation instructions. They can be down loaded from B&Ms web site I believe.

B&M shifters have a pin that goes in the plate to block half of that last gate for use with Ford transmissions, the pin should have been there when the shifter came out of the box. There are actually two pins in these shifters, one is for the parking gate, and the other is for use with GM transmissions with OD cause they need 4 gates for the forward gears vs. 3 gates for the Ford ODs and all 3-spd slushies - that pin normally blocks the last gate, you pull it and you get your 4 gates for a 700R4.

The kit you're referring to goes in the trans, tis a new shift lever to get the AOD detents to match the gates of the shifter. GM transmissions and C6s and C4s you can swap that from the outside and the new plate comes in the universal kit, but the AOD lever swap requires a minor transmission surgery so it's a separate add-on to the shifter.

I don't see any ground wires from the motor to the firewall, nor do I see any to the frame from the motor....that's not a natural thing, for the shifter cable to break prematurely....something I have repaired in the past, is a couple of cars accidentally using the shifter cable as a ground circuit, and eventually melting through the inner core...make sure you have ground straps attached. Im' not saying that this is what happened...but it's something to look out for.

Ditto on that. Good eyes there mate. The first SHO manual cable operated shifters had trouble with this.
