    You can flush the screen out, but new pickups aren't too expensive. Sometimes for all the bother, its not really worth cleaning the old ones up, especially if you're not going to have the old oil pan off. I've re-used mine three times now, but it had no sludge or chunks in it. A good dose of kerosene or whatever will do the job.
