Do I need to adjust the valve lifters or are they automatic?

Another daft question from a beginner with a 1984 302ci Grand Marquis. As above, do I need to adjust my tappets (lifters) at regular intervals or are they self adjusting?

    Thanks

You have hydraulic lifters in that car. No adjustment is necessary.

Usually attention to valve lash on these cars is required only when swapping heads or installing new rocker arms. In that case, with stock pedestal rockers anyway, you'll want to swap pushrods and/or add rocker shims as necessary to get about 3/4 turn from "zero lash" to torqued.

Do you seem to be experiencing lifter noise?

That's good to know, thanks for the info guys. It's one more thing I can eliminate from my rough idle diagnosis today.

Most likely. Is you Canadian '84 a CFI or 2V carb?

              Propane is neato.

Apologies for my inadvertant substitution of "you" for "your".
