    What's the difference between X block and Y

    Hey guys. I have a question that I don't know the answer to. while I was taking the upper and lower intake off the 86 Vic I noticed that it had three X's on the block. I know my Mustang motor that I had bought had 3 X's on it. I thought only the HO motors only had them. So I thought well maybe they all had that. Even the non HO. But When I removed the lower intake on the Lincoln it had Y's on it right at the Lifters. Stamped into the block. I was like wtf? I know it didn't have an HO motor in it. So I just wanted to know what the difference is on them?

    Its a meaningless casting mark as far as any research has ever indicated. "porn" blocks might get turned on by abuse though.

      That's crazy. Why would they go through the trouble of putting different stamp codes on the block. When the motors are identical. I would think there would be some sort of difference.

        I've wondered this same thing multiple times.
        1984 CV tudor 351W, 4bbl, 5-speed best time in the 1/8 8.39 at 80 with 1.80 60ft time.

          Since not all windsor blocks were actually made in the windsor plant, maybe that has something to do with it?

            a lot of them have the CCP markings, Cleveland Casting Plant.
