Yeah, I found them hard too.
It was my first time ever doing plugs, two weeks ago on a 1990 302. I had to unbolt just one thing there, can't say what it was, to get to a couple of the passenger-side plugs. Bolted it back when I was done, no harm done. Maybe it was to do with the AC
If you don't have one, they make a socket extension with a hinged head just for spark plugs, so that you can hold your wrench vertically over the engine compartment while getting to the almost-horizontal plugs. Some of those plugs were STUCK! So don't forget anti-seize on the new ones, you'll thank yourself in another 20k miles
I must have spent 2-3 hours total, but like I said, first time ever doing plugs on any car. Might have taken me 20 minutes just finding where the plugs were located! I'm such a noob!
