    IAC Woes

so i bought a new iac yesterday for the mark was a standard part ac20t. put it on the mark worked for 30 secs then died. i could tell it wasn't working because when unplugging it there was no change in idle. also i noticed when i turned the ac on the idle went down instead of increasing like it is suppose too is that because the iac was bad?. any one else have issues with aftermarket iacs?. im tempted to buy a motorcraft one now.

I've been lucky I guess. Both of the aftermarket IAC's that I got (CV and Ranger) work. PLus several others that have bene pulled from the JY.

I put a Delphi brand IAC on one of my Town Cars. Had no issues with it. If Motorcraft is available, I'd go with that.

Have a Wells on my '87 and it has been good for years. Usually only go OEM (especially for sensors and other electrical stuff) so maybe I am lucky. Just couldn't get an OEM IAC, at the time but if I have a choice, I go OEM!

I've seen them not work right. They don't usually not work completely, but you'll often get self-test codes about not being able to control the idle speed.

If the TPS is bad or out of range, the IAC may not operate correctly. Check for codes, you may be chasing the wrong problem.
