Rear gears - what do I have?

Well, I'm trying to figure out what the hell is in my rear axle - I thought that base Executive TCs have the 2.73 rearend, but Scott suggested that with it my car would accelerate real slow, which doesn't seem to be the case. The metal tag on the cover is long gone, so I can't read the numbers from there... Door sticker reads "Y" for the axle code. Any ideas? The car gets to 120mph with no problems, and that's not the top speed, tranny is stock.

GMGT, thanks, so I'll be definitely keeping these gears when I do a locker setup.

Texasvic, lol, that will eventually happen, (probably even next week), but I was just being lazy and curious at the same time.

i'm doing a 3.55 swap in the spring

just dropping the whole rear, and wheeling it over to Grey October, drop her rear end and bolt up the other one

Speaking of your Merc... it's sweet, love that racing look. How did you get the rear that high, I use HD wagon cargo springs on my TC and although already pretty redneck it's still not as high as I want it.

                Thanks! It's my redneck express

Use HD cargo coils for a station wagon. 1984 colony park wagon to be exact.

Air shocks help, but I don't even run them anymore since I installed the springs...

Well, that's how my redneck ride looks like this from the side. I run the stiffest Panther springs that can be found in a parts store and that are not some aftermarket special 300+ lb/in rate

No need........even if you were missing the door tag (in which Y always equals 3.08 open) all you need to do is jack the axle up and spin a tire while watching a mark you put on the driveshaft.
