It's not lengths. Bracket racing works by both racers guessing a "dial-in" time. This is the time that the racer thinks his car will make it down the track in. The slower car gets a head start (by time at the tree, not by lengths) and it's timed so both cars should be at the finish line, if they both run their dial in. The object is to get as close to your dial in time as possible without going under, or "breaking out."

Technically they get lengths though..Even though they start at the light. The slower car starts first, get so many seconds head start (figured from dial in) Whoever runs the closest w/o going quicker wins.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

Bracket racing goes more for consistency than speed. Slow cars can do just fine in bracket racing because they're consistent. I could in theory take a bone stock Yugo and win a bracket racing competition, and that says a lot cuz you ain't winning shit in a Yugo.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
