oxygen sensor is broken off on drivers side.

My drivers side oxygen sensor is shot the one connected to the exhust manifold it's like totally broken off. My question is how screwed am I? I know you have to heat them up with a blow torch to get them to unscrew at least thats what I have heard from mechanics. And how will driving it without one affect my 1991 ford crown-victoria 302 cu-inch motor. It has kind of been stalling out when idleing then starts back up then kills.Think this is connected to the oxygen sensor. It has one on passenger side that seems okay. Can it be operated on just one sensor? Any suggestions greatly appreiated.Signed HELP IN IOWA.

hose with PB blaster or some such penetrating lube to see if it's not totally rusted solid. That's all I needed for mine when I replaced them. Yes, without the o2 sensor, the engine will act weird. If it is rusted solid, yeah... you'll need to heat it with a torch... and a welding style torch too. Need the narrow flame to keep from burning other stuff up.

barring that, you could just drill a hole in the downpipe as close to the header flange as possible to install another bung to put a new sensor on... though this would require some welding too. so if the lube doesn't get it going... a torch will be needed.

i have gotten the o2 sensors out already with pb blaster and a 7/8" box wrench......a propane torch should be enough heat to get it to move if blaster alone wont do it, i use the oytorch as a last resort, costs big money to fill my tanks.
