wad of clay and an engine rotation is cheap peace of mind tho. Mostly its long duration cams that will cause you problems, not so much total lift. The valves are closing as the piston is coming up the bore.

Don’t worry Gadget, I’ll definitely check it!
Tiggie- it’s always easy to make a mistake like that, plus you never know if the timing gear factory had a bad day with is machinery, or the custom cam was ground wrong! Kind of an expensive way to check, but now I have a dial indicator for other projects-Phil

I've never actually used a degree wheel, though I probably should have when I changed the cam in my car. Then again I also wasn't 100% sure the valve springs or the p2v clearance was going to be OK. basically I stuck it together, cranked the engine over by hand and sent it when nothing went "bonk".86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Got my pushrods measured. The Intake and exhaust are slightly different sizes. Triple checked in all different ways. Seems most places are out of trick flow or comp cam pushrods. Going to give this company a try: https://www.pushrods.net/one-piece-pushrods-Phil

just make sure they use the same measurement system. I made my own adjustable that measured total length and found out that Comp's measuring system is from the centerline of the ball end, not end to end like you'd get from a caliper. There was only a few thousandths difference among the 16 valves, not enough to matter. Amusingly the new pushrods were the inconsistent part, longest to shortest was about .020 different and I have different shims under each rocker depending on what specific pushrod went in there. If I ever pull them out I will have to lay them out to go back in the same hole. The factory rods were much more consistent.
if yours is consistently different I to E I'd guess the valve stem lengths aren't the same. Could probably lay a straight edge across them and see that.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

From what i read it is common with trickflow heads, due to the different angles the I and E valves are on.
Finally got my pushrods! I ended up using a comp cams checker and mailed it to them so they could confirm dimensions. The company was amazing to work with, and readily answered all my questions. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for some nice pushrods.
Got the other head on, made a solid lifter from an old one, and clay'd it. Didn't even make a mark, GOBS of PTV clearance. I'm basically at the point where I will need to pull the old engine to swap things over... I'll post about that in my reader rides thread when that happens, which will be soon.

Damn, that's bitchin', Brown_Muscle!!! We'll have to arrange a meet-up at Rockingham when we get our respective 351W builds done (mine Edelbrock RPM non-trick heads) and line them up!!! I'm betting your high-tech approach wins out over my sleaze factor, but you never know... I'm building this one loosey-goosey!!!!! ;-)sigpic

Thanks! Always wanted to do a bitchin’ build haha. Yeah that’d be sweet, I really hope she’ll be in the 13’s, but to be honest I have no idea-Phil

From the looks of things and your combination, I would be surprised if you're not solidly in the 13's at minimum. I'm going a bit more radical with the cam and loose converter and perhaps some unnatural aspiration eventually - I'm not stopping @ 13's. You're going to have an excellent street/strip car. Me, I'm just going to see how fast I can go on a mostly stock bottom end before scattering parts! ;-)sigpic

That's always fun! my build is definitely more conservative. I'd love to get it on a dyno once all is said and done. The AOD is a power sucker, so I wouldnt be surprised if it was around 320 RWHP. Thinking 400-425 at the crank-Phil

Comp cams has a dyno program you can download for free. Find airflow stats on your heads and you can get a good approximate horsepower. It's based off the dyno 2000 computer program.Internal combustion of all types is a mechanical symphony, but it is the primordial roar of a V-8 that stirs a man's savage soul.

I'm looking for an aftermarket heater core hose pipe. Will this work: https://www.jegs.com/i/Scott+Drake/2...599-A/10002/-1
It has a restrictor built in, is it correct that coolant flows from the intake into the heater core??-Phil
