    1986 MGM 5.0 Master Cylinder Cao-n-gasket

    Greetings!

Anyone have or know where I can get a new cap and gasket for my master??
Dorman does not show cap, only some gaskets and many of them look identical but have different p/ns, which tells me there is a difference DUH!

    Thanks gents

Very possible but it is a lead that needs verification.

Just did a quick search on rock auto. Different part number on the gaskets.

looks like the only other things with the D9AZ part are the Town Car and the 80-83 Mark VI, which is what I'd expect.

just in case that helps track down the proper thing.

this may be shared with the F150, don't honestly know.

I think the 2004 part number is the rebuild kit, you want the 2140 for the whole assembly.

Thain do you see any potential problem purchasing an original MS NOS/Ford as opposed to current aftermarket?
Meaning, would an NOS in the box present a situation of dry/cracked internal rubber parts? I always like to purchase factory original if at all possible.

Agreed in theory. However, who knows how long the aftermarket ones are sitting on a shelf. I always tend to go OEM but now a days, who knows how long they are sitting?

Found two on line that claim to be Ford NOS, one of which is in the Ford box. Both are just about the same asking price of $49.00
This begs the question: Is there anything internal that will "go bad" just sitting in the box, from aging?

Yeah... problem with NOS stuff is dry/brittle rubber bits. Problem with new/reman stuff is quality of build/rebuild components. You kinda roll the dice either way. I've had no issues with the 2 masters I've reaplaced in the last 20 years with parts store new stock... but that's a very small sample. YMMV
