    rear end?????

What is the best posi rear end size replacement for a non posi 273 highway gear, on an 87 grand marquis 4 door gs.

I had that same question. Lincolnmania and Gadget advised me to look for a 83-91 8.8 rear end with the "K" code. It comes with 3.55's and limited slip. Dont quote me. Im just going from memory. There are human Encyclopedias lurching within the forum and will probably be responding shortly. You have come to the right place.

easiest to find is the K code rear out of a tow package car. If you're looking to change the gearing without swapping the whole rear assembly, you can put any set of gears in there you'd like. Traction lock units can be installed too.

A related question is what sort of driving do you do, and what are your goals for the car? Possibly the 3.55 isn't the best choice for you,

Me thinks your application *might* be a little bit different than the rest of us. I personally like my 3.73 posi set up.
            What happened here?

                  Don't forget the 35-spline axles.

You can get a Detroit Locker for a 35 spline 9". It'd be more friendly for running errands.
