    brake system issue

my dad just picked up a 1980 lincoln makr VI 4door and there is somethin up with the brakes. there is no leaks anywhere, fluid is up in the master but, the pedal goes to the floor and the light is on. if you press real hard on the pedal when it hits the floor, it feels like only the fronts grab. im sure its the master but not 100%. i had this problem on my lincoln years back but, my master was leaking fluid in the booster. iv never seen this problem before.

Try bleeding the rear brakes. If they are full of air, it will cause this. The idiot light comes on when there is a huge difference in pressure from front to back. Ruptured line is the usual, but if someone fixed something and didn't bleed the brakes, it might do that. Really shot wheel cylinders can also do this. If everything is kosher on the rear brakes, then a master cyl thats half fucked would also explain it.

try bleeding it first. a bad master should pump up a little at least and then bleed down, unless its totally toast.

im just wondering if i do bleed it and the brake pedal comes back, will the pedal loss come back after a bit? for the cost of a master and being easy to swap out...
