Will these Lincoln 11 in drums fit a 91 Ford or Merc Wagon?

    Happy labor Day Weekend everyone.
I measured the brake shoes on a posi 3.55 rear axle I have waiting to be put in the 91 GM. I believe it came from a box cop car. The shoes themselves are 11 inch by 2.50 inches. Will these 11 inch drums for a Lincoln Town car fit?

    Thank you,
    Mike

The 11" drums were used thru 1989 on the box CV cop cars (P72) Vin G at least. In 1990, Ford changed the rear drums to 10" on the cop car too. Lots of Lincoln lovers on this site, hope they can help you. Most cop cars (Vin-G) with 5.8L were 2.73:1 and not LTD Slip or Posi.

You need the backing plates if you don't have them already.

11" drums were the same on wagons, police and tow package cars. I'd still go disc brake though. I had 11" drums on my car. They worked, but they're just irritating to deal with and the parts are expensive and hard to get most of the time. 10" parts are easy, but those really suck as far as stopping power goes. One huge disadvantage with the discs though is the feeble parking brakes. With the drums, you had a legitimate emergency brake. Try that with those weenie shoes on a disc setup and you'll just smoke them out before actually getting the car to stop.

IIRC the axle housing is longer on the 91's than on the boxes, TC & CV. Not much but a bit. Just gives a more narrow track with the older units.
