This morning on the way to work, I noticed my brakes felt odd. At first I noticed the rear seem to make a click/clink on release, then I noticed the fronts seem to grab pretty quick and it felt like the right front. Any ideas before I head home tonight?

Could one of the calipers need a bit of lube or cleaning?2000 Grand Marquis LS

Yep slides dirty up ...cause what your talking about...Clean them up real good...when you do make sure the caliper piston returns easy...if stiff or will not then you know you have other issues....also inspect the brake lines...cracks kinks ....they have been known to colapse internaly causing caliper issues. The rear drums sounds like adjusters...President He Man Woman Haters Club

new development..
When I headed out for lunch I had no front brakes. Checked the fluid and they were both half full. When I took off after checking, I had brakes again.

Sounds like the sliders are rusted up or the calipers are giving up on you. Pull the sliders and run them on a wire wheel, then put some superlube or the stuff made for disk brake hardware on there and see if you're ok again. I'd also seriously consider a flush on the brake fluid if its not been done already. It might not be a bad idea to to do front hoses and calipers along with a brake fluid flush to get it all fresh again. Calipers are fairly cheap, so are hoses. Probably you can do both sides for under $100 if the pads are still OK. Maybe you're a bit over $100 if it needs pads.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

They seemed OK this morning, so I am gonna look them over good this weekend. Pads are good, so that's not an issue. The fluid does look awfully dark so I will flush them and see if that improves the problem, if not calipers and hoses next.
Is there any difference in quality between makers of calipers? Some at AutoZone are like 20 bucks with some at advance up to 60 bucks. I plan to have this long term and tow a trailer so I don't wanna go cheap.
ThanksLast edited by 85MercPark; 04-11-2006, 08:13 AM.2000 Grand Marquis LS
