    What I was discussing was an isolated piece of metal with screw type ridges on one end and a peg on the other that just connected between the key cylinder and ignition switch.

      Replaced and working fine now.
      Mine had the tamper resistant Torx bolts. Factory had locktite but since it'd been replaced before, that was already taken care of.

      That thing crapped out on my '82 while driving. I think it broke when I started it then showed itself on the highway at 60mph when the steering wheel locked. The teeth on the end sheared off. I ended up stabbing a screwdriver in the column to hold the lock mechanism up until I could get home. Plus stopping it by pulling the coil wire and starting it by crossing the solenoid. It was a fun day.
