    electric clips removal

I am dropping the tank on my 1987 GM. How do I unclip the wire connector going to the fuel pump without tearing it up. Is there a special trick or tool? It is the design that has two ears with the clip part on each side. I have dealt with these under the hood and end up breaking one of the clips. Trying to avoid breaking it since it goes to the fuel pump and I don't want to introduce any more electrical issues. Thanks for any input.

two small flathead screwdrivers, one under each clip, spread apart gently and pull apart, they still may break, if they do hold the connector together with a zip tie

Thanks, I was hoping there was a different way. Maybe I will grow a third arm and hand overnight to make it easier to get apart tomorrow.
