So I just tried out the Wirefy crimping tool I bought a month ago. Up until this point; I was crimping with a set of channel locks. Then I had a crimp come apart and realized I needed to upgrade. Should have gotten this tool long ago. It has me thinking of building my own harness connectors to make wiring easier and a bit more functional. Just thought I'd share my experience/blunder.

channel locks are not crimp tools. Proper ones actually make connections that don't fall apart, shit ones make you hate crimp connectors. Shitty crimp connectors also don't work well no matter what kind of tool you use.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Yah, that is one of the dies that came with the tool. Even when I was younger and had stronger hands; I couldn’t make a crimp like that. I’ve been pulling on this test crimp for a few hours; even had my Dad pull on it (still has stronger hands); it’s very tight. In the not-so-distant future; I will get a Deutsch connector kit and start practicing making those.

I strip the wire end 2x as needed, fold wire upon itself usually once, remove plastic color with a twist, insert wire, lightly crimp to not break or cut strands, solder with Kester rosin core using Weller Jr. gun, then usually add a wrap of Super 33 tape, then add shrink tube segment, heat as needed, done.No ... I'm not arguing with you ... I'm just explaining why I'm right ...
Now go ... and whatever you do ... have a safe trip!

I'd actually like to find terminals like the OE ones that crimp into an M shape. I've done that with the special terminals but they must exist for common 1/4" spade connectors and splices and the like. No insulation on those, have to use heat shrink, but they are a much smaller end result and seem to be pretty mechanically robust.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I think I still have a bunch lying around somewhere.
There is a special crimper for those that has the M shape. It will also crimp the factory weather seals.
For regular style crimps I use the blue point crimper, works great zero problems

clipsandfasteners has the OE terminals. I have the crimp tool for them. I know they make "common" crimp terminals that use that OEM style crimp method though. The BMW sensors in the Continental have them. All common 1/4" spade but the crimp to the harness is the M crimp.
My regular crimp tool is like that Blue Point but they came from Harbor Freight. Still work well, way better than the crappy crimpers built into most wire strippers.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

When purchasing wire crimpers; make sure you can get the dies that you will need for things like basic crimps and open barrel terminals. I didn't know that I needed the open barrel die until I had to repair my relay plug. It looks like that die can also be used for making spark plug wires as well.
