Stainless steel looking ones right? They maybe screwed in with tiny screws, or they may have clips hidden underneath the window channel weatherstripping that holds them in place. Gotta inspect for screws and if there is none than roll down the window and yank down the window channel weatherstripping and pop out the clips and catch the rain guard.

I removed them easily enough, they just slid out of the window weather stripping track that the window was in. They don't want to stay in the tracks on my car, though, can I just use 3M double-sided tape for this?

they weren't held in with clips or anything, must just have been glued on or something. I had to remove a metric fuckton of green paint (wtf?) from the inner side of each of them.

edit: they are OEM, ford stamped and parts number on them. they have holes for the clips though?

Get some gray permatex silicone and run that along the piece that slid into the channel then put them into place on your car. Dont drive the car overnight so it has a chance to cure. It will hold very well and not be difficult at all to remove.
I guess you can use double sided tape as well as long as it has a good amount of surface to adhere to.

Do they actually go in the same spot the window goes in (ie between the window and the outer piece of stripping) or..? That's what they came out of on the parts car. If that's not the case it might have something to do with the weird fitment

No they are supposed to go in between the door window frame and the window channel weatherstripping. They should not come into contact with the window glass. Too bad no clips were present.
