    ^cool.

    Some Videos of my dad and I installing the timing cover and water pump:

    Installing the water pump and timing cover for the second time lol



    Installing the oil pump, pickup, drive shaft and pan…at the end of the video we realize we forgot to install the drive shaft….and that is why we began taking the pan back off. UGHA.

      Those driveshafts'll getcha. I didn't make that mistake, but it's surely an easy one to make. Notice the gasket from the oil pump to the block? I had to get one from a machine shop and they were all bitching about how "Ford is the only ones who use these stupid gaskets, why they need them; I don't know. That's why you should always stick to a small block chevy" So I casually walked out, with my new gasket. Confused as of why they thought I cared to hear that.

      From where you're at, I see there being a week before burnouts.

      Get to the manual swap already.

        better to find the missing pump shaft now than when its in the car. I've seen that "fixed" by removing the clip and dropping it down through the top, but then its very liable to come out with the distributor and you're back to being screwed.

          Yep your exactly right. Better to catch it now...It was quite easy to catch as the big ARP package with the drive shaft was sitting on the bench waiting to be installed the first time if we remembered. lol No biggie. Ripped off all the oil pan bolts and destroyed them in the process (the paint that is) so I ordered ARP oil pan bolts to make me sane again. Also ordered arp valve cover bolts both for the stamped steel covers as well as the cast EFI mustangs ones. Picked up ARP lowe intake hardware as well as a 3/8 gt 40 intake spacer with hardware. Will have to drill out the egr hole but that will be easy to do.

            You mention a GT40 intake spacer, is that what style intake you're using? Intake from a lightning? What size throttle body? Sorry if you mentioned this already I can't seem to find it

              you're using the valve cover bolts? I have a set of studs around here in my P heads. Have given some thought to getting the fancypants nuts for the top and using them but not sure if I can actually get the valve covers to clear over the studs and still fit under the wiper cowl. Haven't felt motivated to do the work to swap them only to find out it won't fit.

                Yeah lightning tubular intake with lightning egr spacer and throttle body. Probably around 65mm.

                I plan to use valve cover bolts for the valve covers. I have stock stamped valve covers with bolts as well as the EFI cast aluminum valve covers with bolts. Not sure which style I will run yet. I don't plan to use studs and never gave thought of clearance issues surround the studs and the wiper cowl.

                  Nice job on the engine Dave.

                  You will not regret clearing the heads, though; they turn nasty, regardless of the temp rating of the clear. They'll stay nicer bare.

                  I am putting together a little 306 for my Mustang using the same (I think) heads, but an Anderson N41 (I have different pistons). Mine will be carbed (air gap and 650 DP), though. I really like the blue; I was debating doing mine in grey, because I like the dumbed down stock look (recall that I did that with my coupe), but the blue is sharp.

                  Love all the details and paint contrast, and the red timing pointer is mint.

                    A bit more progress.

                    Installed ARP oil pan bolts just because and filled up the oil filter and engine with oil.



                    Primed it with a primer tool and got oil coming out of all the pushrods!





                    Intake is next.
