    instrument light dimming

Nephew 100 miles away sends this image from his 90 CV. His dash lights are dim and he has no control over them. This dial he says affects only the delay time for lights off. Somewhere there must be dash light control? But where? My 08 MGM is way different. Thank you.

Spin the knob that is used to manually tun on the headlight. The ring behind that one is for the auto headlight deal.

That is also not a 1990 Crown Victoria unless he swapped the entire dash. It is an 88 or 89.

I get conflicting info from him, sorry. It's frustrating being too far away to hands on help him. Thank you.

No worries. All he needs to do is spin the knob for manually activating the headlamps. I forget, but all the way one direction is fully dim and all the way the other (before the detent) is fully bright and after the detent (you feel it in the switch) the interior courtesy lights illuminate and will remain on if you leave the switch in that position so dont leave it there as your battery will die in short order after leaving the vehicle.

he claims it does not turn. I told him it is stuck from non-use or broken back behind. what else could be the problem?

It will spin. Clockwise is dimmer. Counterclockwise is brighter. Extreme counterclockwise with a click will turn on the dome light.

It is possible the contacts are crusty but you can usually find at least one happy place in the rotation that will work.

Is he turning the main knob or the one underneath it closest to the panel?

Also the headlights have to be on for that turn function to work the night lights.

                    Good but possibly overlooked point!
