    Barge Exhaust Options

Anyone know if panther exhaust pipes will fit on a barge?

I have a new muffler and tailpipe for my '78 LTD (came with the car in the trunk when I bought it) but it looks like the Y pipe on the car is pretty much gone too so I don't have really anything useful to bolt it on to.

I know I can go some sort of custom exhaust but I'm just looking for something cheap in the mean time to quiet it down while I work on it and to pass inspection.

The walker Y pipe is < $30 from RockAuto for panthers but there's no exhaust pipes for barges listed anywhere.

    Thanks,
    Erik

From what I remember about my 71 Merc, it was quite different in terms of exhaust.

You can probably make one work from a Panther. Measure the side to side distance of the head pipes on your current setup and we can see if it matches.

Bummer. I'll measure and compare my CV with the ltds and see what that looks like but it sounds like I'm probably looking at heading to an exhaust shop.

      Thanks!

No, straight pipes are for beaners with terrible wheels and curb feelers. Is that what we're trying to propagate here? Respect the car and do something tasteful. If you want to sparkly-paint it, put hydraulics on it, and make us all look like jerks then god be with you but I hardly think that represents these vehicles well. Find a good exhaust shop to do some bending and put a decent set of mufflers on there, hopefully not dronemasters but that's your personal choice.

people can put on the type of exhaust they want... if they attract too much attention from the law, that's their problem. Making blanket statements like that really isn't very bright.

Every single person I ever met with straight pipes was a white guy. Just sayin'.

Slack, do you have a thread about the land barge, or more pics somewhere I can check out? I love those cars and I still regret passing on a similar model years ago.

Nevermind previous question, clicked your poc and was redirected to thread. I guess I could have tried that first....

I prefer a quieter exhaust that I don't have to feel like I'm annoying all the neighbors with every time I drive it. That said, if I don't have an option to replace the Y pipe, I might as well go dual exhaust and get a bit more flow going.

Any ideas on about how much that would cost?

At this point, I don't think I would be looking at something like stainless. I'm trying to figure "To-Do's" into the budget.

A shop can make a y-pipe if they don't have one. Would probably be less than duals by about 35-50% depending on how spendy the mufflers were.

That's a good point. I already have a muffler and tailpipe so I just really need the y pipe.

                      Thanks!

Different strokes and different folks I suppose, but I'm a bit overexposed here. Anyhow, if you're not looking for noise or extra performance, why not run a y-pipe and your existing muffler/tailpipe. Single exhausts weird me out but it's just an OCD thing with symmetry, and I kinda like my exhaust with sound.

I can agree with that statement. I like to hear it, but I don't like to advertise through it. I like it to be mellow and only bark when it means it (WOT).

Hard row to hoe, unless you have a pretty healthy engine with pretty mellow exhaust, although some vehicles can pull it off better than others.

kinda like this one... doesn't drone on the highway when cruising... has a bit of a rumble, but not much, but yells good when I get on it.
