That surely helps. In that case, you can both do small incremental upgrades and see what they do. Just be aware the gains will probably be minimal.
Not sure there are a lot of economical upgrades you can do as this is a "dog" performance vehicle. Any real upgrades would not be cheap, wouldn't be worth the effort and would require several...
Just checked the Owner's Manual and it calls for AWSF-32C so that should be coppers. Not sure what is stated on the car's decal but will verify possibly tomorrow.
Interesting you would mention pinging going away with the replacement to copper plugs. My '93's PO had Autolite Plats put in as opposed to the OEM Motorcraft Coppers. It does have a ping under load...
Unless you are REALLY having a timing issue, I'd leave it alone. Have to be really careful about it, or it is not going to end well and be more grief than it is worth!
Just in case.......

I have only used Motorcraft OEM Oil Filters, for MANY decades and have never had an issue. We're talking Ford vehicles only. Not to say other high quality filter won't work as well but I am not one...
Could it be dirty lifters? Possibly use Marvel Mystery Oil or an engine flush and refill?
Probably best to research the torque setting and recheck after a specified amount of miles. That's the official way of doing it but many of us have maintained it without a torque wrench. I personally...
As always - lookin' good!
Cool - gotta do the obvious easy stuff first.
May be able to find a replacement OEM on EBAY if the original is faulty. Not sure if the original question was for informational purposes or there is an issue.
It's not the right way but wonder if you can jamb some thick gasket maker into the area and let it cure properly before using. Could then leak from another weak spot but maybe worth a shot? I...
Did you have the leak prior to doing the water pump? Appears others have alluded to this question. If not, you then have your answer.
Any way to get an old Ford 3rd light and wire/mount that?
I'd try the brass bushing (check to see if the old bushing has failed). If it is gone you probably can't go over 25-30 mph or so. Problem is probably elsewhere if you are getting to normal speeds and...
Saw the BIN price but figured he/she might take less. Who knows?
Not a wagon person but for those that are this one doesn't seem to be too bad. Hope it goes to a good home at a reasonable price!
Would be interesting to track all the wires coming and going into that connector to see where they came from and where they are going. I do seem to remember a connector similar to that having wires/s...
Does it have connectors for a tripminder?
Looking good!!
VERY smart move!
Cool! If that is your only issue, an easy and relatively cheap fix!!
Better idea. While running it should give you an answer.
