That car looks amazing!
So it sounds like the stock hydraulic setup on M5OD equipped trucks was either very hard to bleed and adjust properly, or else simply had issues with getting enough travel. Yet I assume they worked...
Always possible it was a hack - people have different standards for "good enough," especially depending on purpose (winning a derby vs. surviving on the street for many years to come). ...
When I got tired of failing stock combination valves, I tried all new replacements from Speedway Motors. Starting with my stock master cylinder and stock brakes, I ended up adding:
Front brake...
More than I knew before!
Do the M5OD transmissions use a hydraulic throwout bearing stock? I found info on setting clearance for a hydraulic throwout bearing, but what I've found seems to assume...
IIRC, the guy who wanted my '87 wagon for a derby car said he always put Chevy spindles right on the Ford control arms. If you can get B body drop spindles that fit your budget even if it turns out...
I was doing some poking around, and discovered that the M5OD(R2?) five speed manual as used in the 3.8L Thunderbird SuperCoupe has desirable characteristics. Namely, small-block bolt pattern, higher...
Wow! That puts things in perspective. I've seen enough posts from you when I've checked in, I hadn't realized you were newer than this thread!
Update: Have dragged this out of the garage and started working on it with the kids. They're suddenly all sorts of keen on it. So ... for the time being, anyway, this is no longer for sale!
2.26:1 RAR = 70mph in First gear! (with a C4, anyway) :nana:
I never did successfully explain that concept to someone that my confusion at having to grab Second at 5mph in a certain other...
Time to resurrect an old thread!
After what seemed like decades, but was apparently less than one decade, the kids and I excavated this car from underneath a lot of furniture boxes I had hoped to...

Yes, my '81 came to me with what I believe to have been the original 255, along with an AOD and 3.08 open 8.5 axle. Still have the engine stored away, will give it to any of you who care to come get...
Looks good, very similar to stock. Slash cut is actually an improvement.
Stock wagon duals are weird. I still have the ones I bought for my '79 wagon and swapped onto my '81 "tudor."
Sent from...
I recently watched an "Engine Masters" show on Motor Trend TV where they made more power with - no joking - a stainless steel salad bowl with a hole cut to fit the carb inlet - either with or without...
Hi, everyone! I do still exist, I just give as little thought as possible to car junk anymore.
Last night I went a little wonky and searched eBay for seats. I found the following four auctions...
Noticed this also on my local Craigslist, actually looks pretty nice from the pictures. Improbably close to me, too, but I've got neither the money, the space, nor the inclination for another car...
Noticed this on my local Craigslist. 4.2L anemia is easy to solve; rust issues, less so.

Good grief ... I don't remember! I know the ones with RCA connectors were still dangling from the dash when I sold it. I also know I never got around to touching the rear speakers or the tweeters...
Weird, I've never known people to up and unbuckle with the car in motion.
Did you get a picture of this stock mounting boss you speak of?
Hotlinked pics no worky for me ... weird. I copied the URLs from the Reply With Quote dialog and had a look anyway.
Are you the first person to actually do this? I recall posting some time ago...
True, true. I splashed diesel on my leg at an old job once, and found myself quite desperate to change my sock by lunchtime!
Must have been a huge help to have someone around to guide you on a project like that!
AM tube unit, eh? Going to be about the opposite of a rumored previous life where it had a modern CD headunit and a thumpa-thumpa amp in the trunk! (I pried up a board that had been glued to the...
