Nice job getting to the root of it. I’m surprised plugs would cause a misfire on decel due to the extremely low load the engine is under. I would have thought the miss would have been more noticeable...
Does it feel smooth with no misfires when accelerating hard? If it were an ignition issue heavy load is when it would show up.
It potentially could be the trans. I’m not an AOD (or trans in...
A Hayden 5942 from Rock Auto looks to be the correct replacement. There is an upgraded assembly, Motorcraft YS-173, but those are difficult to find.

Crap I should have kept my mouth shut and not made my comment about everything lining up. Looks like I jinxed it lol. I was really hoping that there was a way you could make the rod could be made to...
It sounds like everything is going to line up well with the TV so hopefully the adjusting goes smooth. Excited to see the project in the final stages.

Sweet! Have you gotten the TV rod hooked up yet?

Looking good! Can’t wait to see it finished!

Looking great! Can’t wait to see it finished. Watching it come together is making me want to move forward with a carb swap on mine. Glad you’ve got the roller block, too. That is strange that the...
Glad your making progress! I’m curious to know if you’ve got a roller block once you get the intake off. I believe they switched to that block mid 1985 model year.

Looks like that fan clutch is for tow package cars. IIRC tow package/heavy duty fan clutches lockup 80-90% whereas a standard duty one locks up about 60%. Did the tow package cars get a different fan...
Definitely a neat garage! I would put a sheet of 6 mil plastic down over that dirt though. The moisture coming up will rot the undercarriage quickly.

The instaclear cars had the 100 amp 1g alternator as standard. Non instaclear cars had either the 60 amp 1g or the 75 amp 2g depending on the year.
All three of those alternators have very weak...
That’s great to see one of those trunk trim strips for sale! I’m in need of a new one since mine didn’t survive being removed to replace the adhesive. Yikes on that price though. I can’t justify that...
Instaclear was available on US cars too. I actually saw two of them in the junkyard earlier this year. One still had the instaclear windshield installed while the other one had an aftermarket...
Sure thing! It won’t be until the spring until I’m able to work on it though. The car is in a storage facility for the winter and this one doesn’t allow work to be performed on cars while they are in...
I think I’m going to order it and give it a try. Rock auto has them for $100. If the fitment is a little off due to the heat riser it could probably be tweaked a little bit to work.

I saw a post from a year or two ago you made about using Eastern Catalytic part number 30205 for the driver’s side cat replacement. Did this work ok with the heat riser valve?

I agree…you’ll hate it. Definitely stick with a dual plane low rise manifold.

Wouldn’t the canister eventually get saturated with fuel vapor, stop working and result in fuel vapor constantly coming out the disconnected purge line and accumulating under the hood? It wouldn’t be...
There is a charcoal canister in the passenger side of engine bay right up by the radiator. It’s mounted down low. I would keep it along with the purge valve and mimic what the carbed cars did for...
That’s the correct bracket. You’ll have to use the Lokar throttle cable with it as well which means you probably won’t be able to keep the cruise control. If you can fab a bracket to make the Lokar...
I don’t believe the RPM version of the performer intake will fit. I do seem to remember it being taller. It’s rev range is 1500-6500 so that’s not good either. The performer 289 is the one you’d...
Very nice! Holley’s are great because they can be very finely tuned. You made a good buy with that carb.
Have you picked out a 4bbl intake yet? If not I’d look into the edelbrock performer.

Sure thing. If you need any others let me know and I’ll post a picture.
Are you going to go with a Duraspark 2 for your ignition system?

I’ll have to invest in an airlift tool when I get a new compressor…looks pretty neat. I picked up one of those Lisle funnels a few years ago. Works like a champ and keeps the coolant from spilling...
