It was the fuel pump or sending unit. He opted to buy the entire assembly. We tested the fuel pressure and it was zilch. Got the new assembly in and she fired right up.

Update.....we changed the fuel filter, and it starts now, but dies rather quickly. Won't take any throttle at all. Unplugged the MAF and the same thing. Seemed to actually start better with MAF...
It doesn't bog, but the valves ping bad at hard throttle.

Thanks guys I will try all those. You can hear the pump when you turn the key on....so gonna start with the filter.
Jay we can hear the fuel pump when we turn the key on..which is weird because I have an 01 as well but can't hear it. I think the previous owners replaced this pump so it's aftermarket.

Cleaned the MAF and it hasn't stalled since. Idle still drops pretty low but it hasn't shut off.
I see them for with and w/o handling package. And IYO should I change the complete assembly or just the bushings and the ball joints?

Well...ordered a service manual cd from ebay..this thing is awesome so far and i just dove into it. Here is what it says about coolant for my 01.
