Really? I've gotta get with the program; still running my second dose of 10W30 break-in lube. What sort of oil-change intervals did you observe with the Mobil-1?

It got down to -15 ambient a few times. Wind gusts in the twenties pretty common. I had the only carbureted car in the employee lot. The 0w30 Mobil 1 saw hardly any noticeable drop in cranking speed/duration even in the worst days. There were days the Vic jump started newer cars. Pretty damn hilarious.

Before I had problems with fuel diluting the oil, I used 5k change intervals. When the fuel pump started to fail and leak fuel into the crankcase, I changed it more frequently. Seemed to go about 2-3k before the oil pressure started to drop.

Off thread topic, but related to the above, when I used Purolator Pure One oil filters, the change intervals were noticeable longer. Great filters.

My engine sounds like that until it gets warmed up.

I can remember on New Year's Day last year trying to get the Vic started....I cranked it a little and it fired once. I gave it some gas and heard...whump......whump....whump....whump whump whump whumpwhumpwhumpwhumpmmmmmmmm....and it was running. I couldn't believe how long it went between firing, especially considering I had my foot held to the floor so there was virtually no vacuum, but it took off and ran lol

Let it never be said that a carbureted car won't start when it gets cold!

my beetle always used to start no matter how cold, and it had no choke system. Of course it had to start 3-4 times at a bare minimum before i could even try to keep it running, and it required several minutes of constant modulating on the pedal to keep it going. No start and idle with that one. Wasn't even start and constant throttle, pumpy-pumpy all the way. What a pain in the ass. The Lincoln I just hit the key and go, so much nicer. Used to run 5W50 synth blend in that car. 20w50 and sae30 caused hard cranking in the winter, and the synth blend lasted longer between changes. I did it every 3k, and with blend the oil was dark brown. Anything else was like tar. yay for extremely high engine oil temps.

No reason to ever run oil that thick.....

Yep. I wonder if anyone on here has an oil temp gauge. Maybe you should work one into your dash project and report back to us.

That'd be interesting. Maybe for future inclusion in the front part of the console or something. Hm.....

I run Shell Rotella T in my car. It's 15w40 and it's a diesel oil so it has zinc in it which is supposed to be better for the engine.
