    New CFI Goodness

After speaking while with the gentleman who was selling the CFI unit on eBay he sent me this interesting tidbit of information

I was looking up your information about the spacer that aided the HP at WOT. I don’t know if this will help, but I remember working out a problem solution on a CFI unit where the problem was similar, and the reason the CFI units get poor fuel delivery to the outer cylinders is this.

The stock intake manifold's in flow path way is too shallow causing the fuel injector spray pattern to change from spraying an efficient air fuel mix combo to (in a sense) splash the fuel going to the outer cylinders against the sides of the manifold.

One way we were able to really help that from happening was first don’t just use a spacer with 2 holes. Instead use an open 1 hole 2 BBL spacer just a spacer with a single large hole, then below that use a standard 2 hole spacer.

This causes a vortex type effect, one big hole being spread up as it goes into the two holes, it atomizes the fuel roughly 40% better than before, and about 60% better if you take your 2 hole spacer, widen the spacers holes gradually from the top of the spacer to the bottom.

Only increase the hole size by 20% and increase the intakes hole size to match the bottom of the spacer, so if the hole size on top of the spacer was 1 inch the bottom of the spacer would look like the hole was gradually getting bigger till the hole reached about 1 1/4 inch.

Then port match the intake hole to the 1.25 inch size. This is what we found to be the best method of getting the most out of the fuel and at WOT you will see at least an extra 27 HP, no doubt about it. It has been a proven method.

Ford created a double wide spacer that acted nearly the same as this method. Without enlarging the spacer and intake holes it still kicks your engine 17 to 20 HP over stock and runs smooth.

In other cars we have seen higher HP and Torque, but in all cases the outcome was a cooler running engine because of the near equal air fuel mix throughout the entire engine's cylinders.

Hope this helps you guys pass it on. Josh Anderson Custom Auto Specialist

Interesting! Sounds like the type of thing that's cheap enough to do that you could afford to try it, and if it doesn't work, you're not out much.

Yea, definately going to consider this.

Mod the spacers. E7s, shortys, a good torque cam and I should be at 200 hp.

Dumb question, do they make a perfomance two barrel manifold? Maybe run an adapter on a 4bbl?

The one on my '84 2 door rubbed the insulation, and that was stock...so that could be a problem. I know it did cause I painted the lid and some color came off on the pad and visa versa.

                        Latest from the CFI guy

I had to duplicate the original Throttle bodies sensor plugs, computer control wiring etc..

it was easy to do that though because I basically just Y split the single plugs and tested the Ohms when it was all hooked up to verify the second Throttle body was not cutting the power in 1/2 like some dedicated power supplies sometimes do when you load them with twice the originally intended gear,

but because these are computer sensors the computer has an automatic power controller module that regulates the power being distributed to each sensor, and with 2 CFI's you would have 2 sensors cut the power in half on both and they would both show 1/2 the power so the computer would double the power automatically

some of the more basic designs like CFI units actually don’t even have a computer controlled Injection spray, they more or less have a dedicated 12 V line with a resistor on it that is turned on and off by the Distributor, and I really think your CFI unit is that kind of fuel delivery system, so basically if you can get a Dual twin carb intake manifold that will actually be able to fit 2 of these CFI units side by side that would actually have No Problem handling quite a good hunk of Power, especially if dual intake manifold had a larger port size than the stock one, I bet you would be able to achieve the 400 HP mark with room to spare, the twin TBI unit went on a BMW with a 6 Cylinder non turbo charged engine that had a pretty good upgrade rebuild. I have this other CFI unit here still the Guy that bought it has paypal address in France, and now he is not a verified eBay member, I can no longer seem to get any emails back from him so if you want this, it is 60 dollars shipped and is in such super clean condition you could probably eat off it, that would give you 4 injectors for your engine meaning 1 injector for every 2 cylinders, it would make it a 4 BBL CFI, good stuff.
