That's what I'm wondering, but unless they had some special adapters, it'd have to be something that would bolt up to an old Y-block...

It has to be a newer tranny, I'm almost positive those trucks came with a stock 4 speed.

The F-700's and F-800's were available with a 5-spd overdrive and a 5-spd direct drive in 1957, which were both available as far back as when the trucks were still being named with single numerical digits. However, as far as I know the F-series wasn't available with the 312ci... I could be mistaken, but I thought they were only available in Ford's higher-end cars.
EDIT: and IMO that truck was better looking with its single rear axle. The Freightliner rear clip makes the truck look disproportionate.Last edited by CheeseSteakJim; 10-12-2008 at 12:51 PM.

did anyone else notice that first gear is on the lower right? is that the creeper gear and you normally start off in 2nd when not pulling or hauling anything?
