    What's a broken spring sound like ?

I have a squeak or creak. It happens over bumps and when turning the wheels. The first thing I was told was control arm bushings. Now I believe the logic that drew that conclusion was sound,we may have just been thinking about different sounds.

Well today I have had enough and finally crawled under the car and put my ear to the area. One ear on ground and one ear up to the control arm. And I definitely hear the sound coming from the spring "well" area. Both shock bolts are there and tightened up.

My car sounds like an old bed. I can't see any cracks in the spring from just underneath it, I count 4 coils I can see clearly.

My car also sits level in the front.

There is no mistaking where this sound is coming from. I just dont know why ?

If I face the undercarriage I can hear the sound on my left at the shock mount and not on my right where the C-arm bushings are. My bushings also look fine, Not all smashed up and cracked like the 97's were.

I have a cracked garage floor, cold weather and barely any room.So I am trying to do as much diagnosing before I fire up the heaters and apply 3 layers of clothes.

Ball joints are shot. Control arm bushings will only do it up/down, not turning the wheel. I would replace them very soon, when they creak that bad it means they're totally dry, probably full of rust, and approacing that 'surprise, spindle no longer attached to the control arm' point while you're on the highway.

                Thank you guys,

                Upper ball joint fixed it.

Dear god, I have heard this since before Thanksgiving...Been driving around thinking it was the control arm bushing...

                God favors the foolish.
