      Are you going to reuse the lopo cam? I would go ahead and do a cam swap while the motor is apart, find an Explorer cam. I really like the Lunati Vodoo cam in my Silverado.

          xxx has no significance I'm aware of. If you have two raised bosses in the middle of the lifter valley, then its a roller block. No boss, no roller. And 85 was indeed the magic year.

            Ok I was apparently miss informed about the xxx thing. As far as cam selection I going to go with something a little better suited for a small car.

              The local machine shop with a good reputation told me ~$650 for a short block rebuild. Do you all figure that's a decent price or should I keep looking?

                Is that all the machine work plus assembly, or the machine work plus the engine kit, and you put it together? Seems to me I paid around 600-650 for the machine work and the engine kit, and I put it together myself. That was including a bore job and a set of pistons though.

                  I paid $175 to have my crank turned .010 and $250 to have the shortblock assembled here in Raleigh, NC. Parts were another story...
                  1989 Lincoln Town Car - "Anabelle" - Original block, .030 over with SpeedPro pistons, rods fitted with ARP hardware, FRPP +volume oil pump, GT-40 3bar heads, Crane 1.72 rockers, 89' Fox cam, 93' Cobra lower intake, Explorer upper and 65mm TB, 93' Lightning EGR spacer, K&N intake kit from a 4.0L Ranger, 19lb/hr injectors w/ 87 Mark VII ECM, cat/smog deletes, Big Brake conversion, 3.55 K-Code Trac-Lok/Disc brake rear axle, CVPI LCA's w/1" sway bar in rear, wagon front sway bar, BBK 2.5" off-road H-Pipe, Flowmaster super 40s, HPP wheels, 3G alternator w/LMR.com wiring kit, gear reduction starter conversion, Best 1/4 time: 16.0 @ 85mph.

                      I'd say thats not too bad then. Including new pistons, or would those be extra if needed?

                          Ok the shop cut there price a bit 750 with new pistons and everything should be done this week. Wahoo!

                            It's done now I just need to put it the rest of the way together. It ended up .30 over on the pistons and 10 on the crank. All I have left is to pick a cam and to figure out what push rods to use.

                              Should be a decent running little motor! You going to put the AOD in there too? That mav would be a cool cruiser then!

                                very nice!

                                1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt
