Sub boxes (need pics)

Im about to build mine and would like to see how yall got yours in the trunk. Im definitely not putting 4 buckets seat in again with the subs as a console like i did in the 90. Also where the hell do yall mount your amps at? I had it tied in with a rope in the last car and it looked rigged as hell because it was.

i just finished installing my amps up on the package shelf, with brackets holding it to the rear fire wall and trunk lid support. I think some one took pics of it this weekend... Ill take some once I clean up the trunk.

Me and my buddy built some boxes and they sound awesome. I found a way to mount the amp. Pics tommorrow. And i also have to buy a capacitor. Headlights dim A LOT.

380 wattsx1 rms. Not a lot at all really. In my other car the lights wouldnt dim it would just run the battery dead. Im buying a 3 farad cap. And as hard as it hits im not going any bigger.

you might want to do the 3g conversion. heavy duty stereos put a big drain on the alt and a cap really isn't the solution. more of a bandaid. the stock alt is only rated at 65 amps. do the 3g conversion and a whole world of amp ratings opens up

plus with the 3g you don't have to worry about fords shitty alt plug catching on fire. fortunately i haven't experienced that yet

Well i dont need a bigger amp and i am going to do the 3g conversion. And im going to buy a cap. Probably get a cap first. I dont know why ford put such a small alternator on these cars with 20 lights on the inside of them.

what size power wire do you have???

Once I put in the 4gauge, I was pushing 350 RMS watts with 2 of the amps and had no voltage drop at all (I have a cap too) but then once i hooked up the other amp, making it 500 watts I could notice a slight drop.

Evil is right though, a cap just softens the massive voltage drops. If you are using more jiuce than your alternator can produce, a cap is useless except for maybe a microsecond, and most bass note last longer than that, lol.

I had a couple of problems i got fixed. First off it is supposed to be 4 ohms bridged and its 2 ohms. So i unbridged it and it sounds much cleaner and also isnt drawing so much power now. Before it would drop 1 volt everytime it hit. Now its maybe .2 volts. Now im pushing 125 watts x 2 at 4 ohms and everything works correctly. My power wire is 8 gauge. And the amp is a pioneer and wont hold anything bigger than that. I have slot port boxes and they are insane. Best ever.

you should really coat those boxes in some polyurethane paint, because if not the first time they get wet you can throw them away

They wont get wet. I may coat them but that trunk doesnt leak a drop. I am going to carpet them one day too.

When you do go with slot ports. The sound these things make is amazing. My system is weak compared to most in this area. There is a suburban around here with 24 10's in it. I know hes pushing at least 6500 watts rms as well. Fucking nuts. Anyway if its raining ill put stuff in the back seat. Ill do something to cover them one day.

dumb question. i've heard that you should get a box thats suited to your kind of music. if i listen to metal what kind of box would my woofers sound better in, ported or bandpass?

sealed boxes make good punchy bass, like the kickdrum makes. Metal wont have much lower than that, unless its industrial maybe. A good sealed box will go lower just as well to, everyone at Scotfesst can witness to that, if they were there for the Crystal Method light show.
My experience with ported and bandpass boxes is that they are great for certain frequencies and lack on others. And if the box isnt tuned for the sub, forgetaboutit.
I hear the snail shell slot box design is supposed to be miraclulous though.

Mine are slotted and tuned to the sub and i will say they are the best ive ever heard. Takes a lot of math to get the box tuned right but it is well worth it. My sealed boxes never hit this hard. These are so much more efficient its not even funny. I guess mine would be the snailshell design. The insides are like this.

i run two 12" subs in a sealed box, bridged to a 2 channel amp, the bass is incredible
