    A/C compressor

I had to take the wagon to the a/c shop, cuz the compressor is making a noise, and guess what, it's busted. The compressor is a year out of warranty, and frankly, these things are too expensive to be replacing every other year.

Can somebody give me recommendations on a good brand to install, that will last the longest? Does anybody know of ones that come with a lifetime warranty?

    Help! Summer's coming!

Nothing with a lifetime warranty, huh? That's bullshit. The original lasted 18 years, they can make a new one that does too.

Any brand recommendations? Not sure what the shop put on there, but it lasted almost exactly two years.

      BULL. SHIT.

I have a Four Seasons reman I got cheap on my car. I think you may still be able to get Motorcraft compressors if you want original equipment and (hopefully) reliability.

And let me emphasize that some have had bad luck with the four seasons compressors leaking oil and such.

I ignored the noise the first time around, and it ended up seizing and shitting metal shavings into the entire a/c system. The whole thing had to be replaced.

heard that more than once. Perhaps I got lucky. Either way I think I paid like 75 bucks for it, so if it shits out, I'll replace it with something better.

Just because I'm really anal about this whole thing...how long have those spectra compressors been on there? Care to take a guess?

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Motorcraft compressors? They're available on rockauto.com, and I'm hoping that it lasts as long as the original.

Just so everybody knows, I ordered the Motorcraft compressor. Although it came without clutch, it appears to be very high quality, with "made in Japan" on the label. I would assume that this means that it is a Denso product, but I don't really know.

Denso or Sanden would be my guess.

Motorcraft A/C compressors are only available NEW and do not include the clutch. clutch has be purchased separately, all 3 pieces, which cost about as much as the new compressor.

I can't pull the clutch off the old compressor? That will really piss me off.

with a special puller tool you can. IIRC it's one of those threaded jobs that pulls from the center which helps keep it all intact. The 3 hook pullers can sometimes bend stuff, but usually work as well. Helped my dad change the compressor in an 89 F150 300-i6 and we reused the clutch. Worked great.
