Sticky this!!! And add to it!!!

Now maybe we can be rid of all those lame "which muffler should I buy because I want my stock single exhaust to be louder" threads.

Something that might be useful is getting a list of what mufflers are "clones" of ones on this list.

For instance, Thrush Welded mufflers are just Flowmaster 2-chambers with very minor tweeks.

Not a bad thought. I tend to forget the confusion a car-enthusiast newbie has when seeing all the different brands and model names, with no clue how the interior is designed.

I noticed the OP doesn't have info on Corsa mufflers. Not that most GMNers can afford them, but their broadband sound cancellation seems like a really nifty design. And of course brands like Spintech are very popular with racing types and employ yet another variation on the weld-baffles-in-a-clever-arrangement core.

I'd also suggest looking for info on Walker QuetFlows for those who might want a more stockish sound level (not that we know any of those types ... ).

actually thrush welded mufflers(debut in 1966) where out before the flowmasters[debut in 1983) 2 chamber mufflers. Flowmaster copied thrush and sold it for double the price. but thrush welded are the originals.

                fair enough.

The point was that you could expect similar numbers to the flowmaster 2-chambers if you go Thrush Welded. Incidentily, I just bought some Thrush Weldeds...

i wont lie to you but the thrush welded mufflers are great. i am pleased with the sound they give and they sound nasty when full throttle.

I have slp lm1's on my car. They sound wicked nasty and flow a ton. But they are not technically mufflers, more like resonators/expansion chambers. But I love them. Though at times I have considered going to the dynomax super turbo to quiet it down some, the slp's get a little over bearing on long trips.

Do they make these in 2.5" sizes? If I ever replace both of the Summit welded muffs, I might consider these. I'm not sure what caused my Summit muff to fail, but I probably won't use them if I have to re-install the exhaust.

too bad they didn't have magnaflows in that list. I'd like to see how they compared. I rather like my mellow magnaflows.

I did find a 2.5" offset/offset in the Walker catalog. It's for some '90-ish Cadillac single exhaust application. I've got the PN posted somewhere - I think. If not, I can get it from the catalog again. They're expensiveish (~$95 IIRC), but no more so than many popular "performance" mufflers. Was thinking of getting some when the Super Turbos showed up on closeout at Rock Auto for something crazy like $27 each - and helped me verify that my resonance problem is almost entirely in the pipes.
