Thanks guys. That is a POS Nova. Think you spied it in another thread about a couple years back.

Figures; my old man's geezer moments tend to have their way with me these dayz, memory-wise (or lack of).

One of my associates drove me to lunch and on my way there I saw a sea green Escort of the same vintage as yours. It made me appreciate how cool yours looks compared to stock (or plain stock as your's has GT trim on it). Plus I just realized the raised lip on the gas fill door when I was looking at the other car.

Here are some pictures of my latest additions…. Autolamp headlights, underdash and underseat courtesy lamps as well as a new kidney bean key fob.

              I’ll start with the autolamps:

Here you can see the underside of the autolamp sensor.

The sensor senses light or the absence of it and tells your headlights and parking lights to turn on and off automatically without you ever having to do a thing.

Here you can see the holes I made in the rear deck so the sensor can have light hitting it.

In that pic you can see the additional relays and wiring needed for the autolamps and the underdash courtesy lights. (2 for autolamps, 1 for courtesy)

Now onto the underseat and dash lights.

The Escort uses a ground to trigger the courtesy light in the dome light to illuminate. I wanted more than the one light in the dome so I added underseat and underdash lights from a 1989 Lincoln Town Car.

To make these lights turn on when the door was open IN ADDITION to when the dome lamp selector was on I had to get the ground signal from the doors AFTER it hits the dome lamp switch.

Above you can see how the dome light is without my added modification

Here is the modified version. That green wire is the ground for the dome lamp which enables the dome light to illuminate when the door is open IN ADDITION to when the on switch is selected in the dome lamp.

That wire green ground wire I ran down underneath the seats where I installed the underdash lights with some zip ties. The lights under the seats receive constant power and get hit with a ground when the doors are opened or when you select “on” on the dome lamp thus illuminating them.

As you can see here the underseat lamps point both forwards and backwards.

Under the rear seats you can see the light escaping.

              Close up.

Now the tricky part was integrating a power triggered courtesy light (the underdash ones) into a ground triggered system. To remedy that I used a relay. No biggie.

Here you can see the underdash light mounted on the drivers side.

And here is my new remote. I had no spare so I purchased a new one through Amazon for cheap! I programmed it and both remotes work great.

Came out great. You must have spent some time studying wiring diagrams to figure the auto lamps out.

Thanks guys. I used the diagram from Dereck and the long thread between Dereck and John on this site to help me out. I then integrated that wiring schematic into the Escorts. Whenever I get into any electrical project I then draw out my own schematic so I know exactly what I need to do and have a hard copy for future reference.

I wish boxes had fat door panels so they would take those! No way I'm putting a hole in the door itself.

Yeah. On my Escort there is just one spot they would fit in the door panels but it is sorta near the door jambs (hinge side) SO the effect wouldn't be as cool.

Come to think of the it boxes have them big armrests in the door panels. Depending on the throw of the lights they may work there.
