    255 V8 in a box??

I am hearing some talk that the early 80's (81-82) LTD Crown Vics had a standard 255 V8 and the 302 was optional....I call bullshit, I have NEVER seen or heard of this before. I think they are getting confused with the small fox-based LTD not our Crown Vics. Anyone know for sure??

Yes, the 255 was used in the early boxes. Ford also placed it in the down-sized T-Bird and Cougar models.

i almost bought a 1981 LTD-S that had the 255 in it.. they had no OD in them or AOD for that matter... the gearing in rear was worse than 2.73... i think it was 2.55s or something like that

1987cp has an 81 that came from the factory with a 255. I believe he still has the engine, though its not in the car anymore. Just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean it does not exist.

It was due to CAFE. It was a downcored 302.

and yea, the 255 was really in early boxes. Was a pathetic engine though.

you know, I actually have seen a 255 with my own eyes. There was one in a Vic at EZ Pull in the running motor section some years ago. Seen a couple 351 cars, even de-wired one of them to allow for a clean 4bbl carb conversion. What an ugly mess of a wiring harness that was.

most boxes had the 351w if they were police issued... i say most since not all the police issued slicktops are 351w or have the sways or 140 speedo
