My 98 is leaking coolant from the t-stat housing but what has me worried is I know these plastic intakes are notorious for leaking here but its very minor and it looks; best I can tell that maybe its just a bad gasket because it looks like its coming out where the inlet meets the intake not lower. Im afraid to open it up and find that I need to change the whole intake. Any suggestions?

You might be able to get away with just a new gasket, its just an O-ring. If the intake was cracked, it would have blown by now most likely.
Definitely start saving some money for the new intake...Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

beats me... I dunno much about mod motors, but Ive done a couple intake replacements on the at work.
If the PI intake will match the NPI heads, you might be able to use it, but I dunno if it would do you any better, and it might even run worse, since those motors need a tune after every little chgange.
It would be there if you do get PI heads one day, if you can run it by itself.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

I've changed out a few of those cracked intakes, and it's no big deal, just looks like a big deal. So if that ends up being the problem, don't worry about it much. And it's not that expensive either, I just used intakes from the JY that somebody else had already changed out. Every single car I've done is running fine, no problems and no leaks!!
I don't think it's worth the effort to get a PI intake, it will perform great without it.

Definitely go with the PI intake if your changing it. It's more than worth it from what I've read.2020 F250 - 7.3 4x4 CCSB STX 3.55's - BAKFlip MX4

It's not a big deal...just a matter of removing the stuff in the way, taking off the old intake and installing everything in the same order...just like any other intake. It's running great, and you can tell the PI intakes are of far better construction than the old NPI ones...1998 Mercury Grand Marquis 131k~ true duals, 2nd cat removed, H-pipe, Xcelerator Turbo mufflers, PI Manifold, 180* Tstat, K&N drop-in.

Well I opened it up today to discover there is a crack on the inside but it doesnt go all the way through. I tried to fill it in with permetex (gasket 1) which hardens but it seems to of only slowed the leak I bought a new gasket anyway but it didnt help. The crack is right in front of the bolt on the drivers side but like I said it does not go all the way through. It looks like its just enough to go around the gasket and seep out that way. Im loosing like an inch in the tank every 4 days or so. Money is a little tight right now so I am trying to put it off as long as possible. what are the chances of it failing badly?

chances are fair... if you keep it to short trips and check the level religiously, you can probably get by for a while. If you start to loose more and more per trip, time to park it till you can fix it.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements
