The sensor on the mirror is very sensitive , try putting your hand over the front of it and putting the high beams on and see what happens and let me know , I just went through a problem with mine a few weeks ago .sigpic

$125 for the one that goes in my Mark 6. That's the lowest price I could find. Most want around 200-250. If he's got autodim, then there should be like 3 knobs behind the headlight switch... the main knob and then two small levers poking out... set them both up top together to turn autolamp and autodim off. autodim is on the right... autolamp (turns the headlights on when it gets dark) is on the left. from your pics... it looks like autodim is pretty far down the way. put it up near min and the highs should stay on.

My problem was the sensor on the mirror , thankfully I had a half dozen of them lying around , It took me three tries t find one that worked .sigpic

Yeah the lever on the right of the switch should be all the way 'up'. I dislike it strongly, you'll bumb it with your hand and poof! No brights when you click. I'd happily disconnect it if I knew how.
Cool beans on the car! If you can't find a good seat I'd check with a shop. If it's only the one panel it may not be a lot to repair.

My 79 Continental had it and I know it was available until at least 1993 as my Grandfather's 93 TC Cartier had it.

the autodim sensor for mine is behind the grill. Mirror is a normal POS mirror
