    Source for ATC check valves.

I have found a good source of atc check valves for anyone who may need them. For some reason they are listed as a blend door and not as a check valve. I picked up 4 of them last week and they work.

four? they don't really go bad that often you know. At the normal consumption rate, you're probably good for about another 70 years.

I'm guilty of the same over-preparedness... I now have two fuel level senders to last me 40 years! And lots of extras of all sorts of things

I've got enough throttle position sensors to last until judgement day.

I used one of those in my 88... went bad in 4 months. got a motorcraft one off rockauto I think (somewhere on-line anyhow) and haven't had any issues since. I'm still planning to move the ATC cable down to the actual blend door to make it a semi-auto setup eventually though. I think the big blend door actuator has a leak in it.

Hmph, mine is original yet. One of the few original parts on the car, and its even survived a fire.

What are the symptoms of needing one of these?

when you accelerate your vents will switch from whatever you have them set on to hot defrost. Then when you let off the gas they will resume there previous function. IE if you have the a/c running and accelerate it will switch to hot defrost, if you have warm heat blowing out of the dash vents and accelerate it will switch to the defrost vents.

I wondered if you'd say that. My car has done that since I've owned it...

Mine was a combination of the check valve and the soup can itself being rusted out. I replaced the soup can, the check valve, and the line from the soup can to the check valve.

Where is the valve located? Seems like I've seen something similar around the brake booster or by the cruise servo or something...

On the non ATC cars at least, it's mounted on the vacuum tree on the firewall behind the intake manifold.

Same place on atc cars, just follow the vacuum line from the soup can and you'll find it.

Almost all ills with the climate control system, ATC and non-ATC can be traced to a vacuum leak. Its usually one or more of a few places, the soup can, the thermal blower lockout, the check valve, or a hose in between any of those parts. The climate control system for all its whackinees and fault-intolerance is actually pretty easy to fix most of the time.
