    Body mounts long gone?

    On my '85 Tudor, I'm in the process of pulling the cfi 302/aod for a 351/t5(detailed in another thread) and I'm about to pull the trans and found that I can NOT get the crossmember out...then I looked at the body mounts...I'm assuming there should NOT be a half inch gap on the bottom rubbers...looks like I'm going to have to try to pick the body up about a half inch(the same amount the crossmember is missing by) in order to get it the hell out...sound about right? I'm assuming it wasn't engineered that way...

    I always have a problem getting the cross member bolts out. I just hit them until they find the magic spot.

      no, there shouldn't be a half inch of air between the lower rubber biscuit and the frame. Your mounts have squished. I bet you have a real bitch of a time with rear shock bolts too right?

      anyway, the pinch weld under the rocker panel should be strong enough to jack the body up by. If the jack goes through, it was already f'd up and needed fixing anyway.

        you need new body mounts energy suspension universal mounts work well........i will have some adaptor washers available soon.........i had to find another machine shop to make me some, skip had the number of the shop that did the last 100 washers for me but his phone got destroyed in the truck crash aug 10 and he wont be able to drive till at least christmas time.

        1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

          I had no problems getting the crossmember bolts out...and have yet to try replacing the worn out rear shocks...this kinda makes me miss my fox-bodies...lol. Poly mounts would be awesome, please keep me posted on when the adapter washers are available...thanks!
